Observations from Yankees’ spring training on Monday.
All’s Wells
Austin Wells singled for his first hit in camp. Last year’s first-round pick continues to impress Aaron Boone. “He can really hit. He’s gonna be a good hitter in this league. It’s fun to be able to watch him go about his business,” the manager said. “That at-bat validates some of the things we’ve seen.”
Chasing Chacin
Jhoulys Chacin allowed two runs — and a homer to ex-Met Wilson Ramos — in his only inning. The right-hander is in camp on a minor league deal and could provide some pitching depth, but he’s struggled the past two years.
Caught My Eye
Roger Clemens’ son, Kody, entered the game for the Tigers, playing second base and going 0-for-2. The 24-year-old reached Double-A with the Tigers in 2019.
Tuesday’s Schedule
The Yankees will play their first road game of the spring, visiting the Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Fla. Jordan Montgomery and Chad Green will make their Grapefruit League debuts.
