INDIANAPOLIS — Bryce Nze had 11 points and 13 rebounds to carry Butler to a 61-52 win over Seton Hall on Wednesday night.
Jair Bolden had 16 points and Chuck Harris added 14 for Butler (8-13, 7-11 Big East). The pair also had six rebounds apiece.
Jared Rhoden had 14 points for the Pirates (13-10, 10-7). Sandro Mamukelashvili added 11 points. Shavar Reynolds, Jr. had nine points and six assists.
The loss dealt a big blow to the NCAA Tournament hopes for Seton Hall, which has been projected as one of the last handful of at-large teams in the field.
“We have a lot of work to do,” coach Kevin Willard told reporters afterward, “but we have two good opportunities — a great UConn team who had a huge win the other night at Georgetown, and obviously a very good St. John’s team who plays great at Carnesecca — so I gotta figure it out a little bit better.”
Seton Hall scored a season-low 26 points in the second half, and the loss marked its first defeat in the last 19 games when holding a Big East opponent under 70 points.
